DOWNTURNED MOUTH

A downturned mouth often conveys "sagging" or "sadness", leading to a tired or negative look. Factors involved include age, genetics or active muscle movement pulling the mouth downward. Regardless of the cause, treatment is available to refresh this region (oral commissures) and provide a lift leading to a more positive contour. Often the down-turned mouth is accompanied by downward folds (marionette folds) and correction may be suggested that addresses both areas.

Dr Joanna Day often employs the use of a filler (Restylane) in this region. Following your consultation and assessment treatment options will be discussed. Restylane injections may be recommended and can be painlessly and skillfully used to correct and redirect the downward corners of the mouth (and if necessary the marionette folds) thus providing more natural fullness to the lower face. The correction provides immediate improvement and a refreshed appearance usually lasting many months.

Occasional maintenance treatments will provide long term satisfaction to most. On occasion Botox treatment may be recommended in minute quantities if overactive chin muscles are causing the problem.
