MICROLASERPEEL

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
  1. What's the difference between a MicroLaserPeel and microdermabrasion, laser skin resurfacing and a chemical peel?
  2. How long does a MicroLaserPeel last? Will I need many procedures?
  3. What are the benefits of a MicroLaserPeel?
  4. When will I notice the benefits of the MicroLaserPeel?
  5. Is anesthesia used?
  6. How long after treatment will I be able to return to my normal daily activities?
  7. Are there any special precautions I will need to take after my MicroLaserPeel?
  8. Who will be performing the procedure?

A MicroLaserPeel is a gentle laser-assisted skin peel for patients seeking an all-around rejuvenation of the full face (with only a few days of rapid recovery time), whereas, laser skin resurfacing is a deeper laser treatment, targeted at improving specific wrinkle problem areas of the face (eg. around the mouth, around the eyes). Although Dr. Joanna Day performs both of these techniques using our Sciton Erbium Laser, Laser Skin Resurfacing generally requires a few extras days of recovery time (up to a week or more) and results in long term improvement or eradication of deeper wrinkles.

Microdermabrasion (dermabrading or "sanding" of the skin) is normally performed as a surgical procedure requiring general anaesthesia to target areas of wrinkling or scarring. Dr. Day does not perform microdermabrasion, since laser skin resurfacing is more precise, bloodless, has reduced side effects and quicker healing time.

A chemical peel is performed usually to the full face and involves the application of an acid which is left on the skin for a particular amount of time before being neutralized. A "light" chemical peel is often undertaken using a fruit acid (such as glycolic acid) but provides limited improvement. A deeper chemical peel usually requires an anaesthetic and sometimes cardiac monitoring to be safely administered and may take a week or more to heal. Dr. Day no longer performs chemical peels, which have been replaced with the more effective MicroLaserPeel.

The benefits from a MicroLaserPeel provide rejuvenation of facial skin and results can be very lasting following a single procedure especially if adequate sun protection is adhered to. As your dermatologist, Dr Joanna Day will provide after care advice and may recommend the use of certain products in order to best maintain and protect your rejuvenated skin. It is always reassuring to know that a MicroLaserPeel can be repeated at any time in the future for those who may desire long term maintenance!

A MicroLaserPeel provides a rejuvenated appearance through superficial skin peeling which occurs after three to five days. Many areas of superficial discolouration, certain freckles, "sun spots", "liver spots", and very fine wrinkles are minimized. The radiance and tone of the skin improves leading to a "brighter, more alive" appearing skin!

The benefits of the MicrolaserPeel are noticed within a very few days of your procudure. Skin peeling will occur between three and five days. Most individuals are able to resume regular activities by one week at which time the skin will appear more radiant!

The procedure is performed without the need for general anaesthesia or needles! A topical "freezing" cream is applied to the skin prior to your procedure to ensure your comfort. For those who prefer, a very mild medication can be taken to assist in complete relaxation. Protective eye shields ensure your complete safety and comfort during the procedure which is performed by Dr Joanna Day who has over ten years of experience with laser skin resurfacing.

You will be able to resume normal activities by one week following your procedure.

Following your MicroLaserPeel, you will be provided with detailed after care information which has been developed by Dr Joanna Day with her over ten years experience performing laser skin resurfacing. An RN and Dr Day will see you in follow up the next day and will review your care routine. The post procedure care is very simple and requires no compresses or "soaks". You will be provided with the topical post procudure cream to apply for a few days until the skin peeling is complete.

Dr Joanna Day herself will perform the treatment. The MicroLaserPeel procedure like all laser skin resurfacing procedures is both technique and equipment dependent. At our dermatology laser centre we have the latest in technology and utilize the new, upgraded Sciton Profile Erbium laser to ensure the best possible results with the least possible risk. With over ten years experience Dr Day's expertise performing aesthetic laser skin resurfacing is second to none and her results speak for themselves! Dr Day is globally respected for her commitment to excellence.
